Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)


1. Who qualifies?
To qualify for this scholarship, you must be a full-time  (minimum of 12 credit hours per semester) undergraduate student at a four year college or university in the United States. You must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. If you are about to enter your freshman year, you must also submit your SAT and ACT scores.


2. Can I mail a hard copy of my application?

No, all applications must be submitted online.  Please email all required documents as pdfs to LCarter@booksforcollege.org .


3. How many scholarships will be awarded?
Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded annually.  The winner will receive a $500 reimbursement check in the fall semester and $500 reimbursement check in the spring semester.  You will receive a detailed timeline and instructions if you are awarded the scholarship.


4. When will I find out if I won a scholarship?

Decisions are made by July 31 each year. You will be notified via email.


5. Will I receive the money before the semester begins? 
No, recipients will be reimbursed $500 each semester after submitting book receipts.  Students will receive the reimbursement check within 4-6 weeks of submitting the appropriate documentation.  You will receive a detailed timeline and instructions if you are awarded the scholarship.


6. Can I use the money to pay for things other than books?
Yes, you can use up to 20% of the scholarship to pay for supplies such as calculators, notebooks, and pens that are needed to complete your coursework. You may not use the money to buy university paraphernalia such as t-shirts, blankets, etc. 


7. Can I receive the scholarship more than once?
Yes, you may submit an application multiple times.


8. How can I make a donation?
You can make a donation online by clicking the "Donate" button below or you can mail a check to Books For College, INC, P.O. Box 620546, Charlotte, N.C.  Please make checks payable to Books For College. BooksForCollege, INC is a 501(c)3 corporation.  At the end of the year, you will receive a letter that summarizes your annual tax-deductable donations.
